Her Life

Sylvia Plath was an American poet, novelist, and short-story writer. She is credited with advancing the genre of confessional poetry and is best known for two of her published collections, The Colossus and Other Poems and Ariel, as well as The Bell Jar, a semi-autobiographical novel published shortly before her death.

Her father Otto Plath died due to some complications.

1950

She starts Smith College

1953

She committed a suicide, which she survived.

1955

She began to study at Newnham College.

1956

She got married to Ted Hughes, who is also a poet.

1960

Her daughter and first child Frieda was born.

1962

Her son Nicholas was born.

1962

The couple splitted over an affair Hughes had been having.

1963

Having struggled with depression for a long time, she tooks her own life.
